This page sets out what is protected, what is not, and who to ask for permission.

Ownership

Unless stated otherwise, the original elements of IqraQuest are the property of the game’s publisher. They are protected by copyright from the moment they are created, with no registration formality, in the countries party to the Berne Convention.

Original elements concerned

This concerns in particular, in so far as they constitute original creations:

  • the name IqraQuest as the distinctive sign of the game
  • the logo and the app icon
  • the graphic style guide and the visual identity
  • the original illustrations
  • the horses and their caparisons, in their original design
  • the game board and its graphic elements
  • the interfaces and their original composition
  • all graphic and sound assets
  • the original animations
  • the original texts and editorial content
  • the original wording of the questions, their explanations and their arrangement
  • the elements making up this website
  • the marketing material and promotional visuals

What is not permitted

Any unauthorised reproduction, communication to the public, adaptation, translation, extraction, distribution or exploitation of all or part of the original elements of IqraQuest is prohibited, subject to the exceptions provided for by applicable law — in particular short quotation, press review, parody and private use.

Question bank

Systematic extraction or re-use of a qualitatively or quantitatively substantial part of the content of the question bank is prohibited. The facts, verses and hadiths quoted are of course common property: what is protected is the original wording of the questions, the choice and arrangement of the entries, the explanations written for the game and the structure of the bank.

Trademark

IqraQuest is used as a trademark to designate the game and its derivative products. The symbol ™ signals that use. No claim of registration is made on this page: the symbol ® is not used and will be used only in the event of actual registration, and then only for the territories and classes concerned. Registering a domain name confers no trademark right in itself.

What this protection does not cover

In fairness, and because an excessive claim undermines real protection:

  • The general principle of a board game that ties questions to movement cannot be appropriated. Ideas and game mechanics, as such, are not protected by copyright.
  • The horse-race board game belongs to the common heritage of play. What is original in IqraQuest is its execution: its board, its illustrations, its texts, its interface and its editorial content.
  • The religious content quoted — verses of the Qur’an, hadiths — belongs to no one. Only the wording and the selection made for the game are concerned.
  • Copyright does not prevent anyone else from creating another knowledge game about Islamic culture. It prevents them from taking the original work of IqraQuest.

Traceability

The visuals on this site come from the game’s source files, whose creation history is versioned and timestamped. The pages carry a rights notice and author metadata, and the site is published under the official domain iqraquest.org. These are indications of anteriority; they do not replace evidence established before a court.

Asking for permission

The press may use the official visuals and extracts from the game in order to report on it, citing IqraQuest. For any other use — partnership, adaptation, derivative product, commercial distribution — write to support@iqraquest.org, setting out the intended use.

Reporting an infringement

If you come across an unauthorised use of IqraQuest elements, write to support@iqraquest.org with the address concerned and a description of what has been taken.
